21st Century Students
I was browsing through my copy of Edutopia Magazine today trying to decide what interesting topic to blog about. It was amazing how many ads focused on 21st Century Students and better ways to teach these students. I guess I had never heard the label "21st Century Students", but have become more aware of how technology is changing and how it affects our schools. My concern is availability. Are these new "technologies" available to our schools? I say no. Because of the opportunities I have had while working towards my master's in special education, I have visited many schools and districts in the Fort Wayne area. Only one school seemed to be on the 21st century track. Not only do the schools not have the equipment to use, the teachers are uneducated on how to use the equipment. Do you think FW is ready?

I must be losing my mind. I thought I commented back, but it doesn't seem to be here. I hope that FWCS is ready or will be soon. After all, as I have to do new stuff on the computer, who will help me if my kids don't? I actually have a 7th grade neighbor who takes care of all his family's computer needs. I'm not too proud to say he's helped me out a couple of times. Unfortunately, though, he's at Boy Scout camp this week!
That is an interesting point you make regarding the teachers who don't know how to use the technology. Of all the people I know who are around my age (29) or older, not many of them are tech savvy. Like Rhonda's neighbor, there are probably many students who would be better off teaching the teachers!
