Take Home Cars

Okay...I can be a geek/dork too. While I drive in the car, I like to listen to talk radio. My favorite show is Pat White on WOWO from 3-6. I got hooked while my sister's best friend worked on the show.

Anyways...I was listening today while driving home from USF, and the topic was gas prices and how Rusty York wants police officers to pay a fee for the officers to take their patrol cars home. It will cost them $50 a month to use the police cars. But, as Pat White explained, the officers are given a choice to not pay the fee if they "promise" not to use the cars for their personal use.

I have mixed feelings about this. It wouldn't be so horrible for them to pay $50 a month (like a car payment) to use the car whenever they want. But, I would hate to not see the cars parked in the driveways anymore because the officers can afford the extra bill each month. And, how many officers are going to be honest and say they won't use it for personal use, then go ahead and use them anyway? Laura

I agree, Laura. I have a friend who's married a cop. They are talking about getting another car-and car payment. $50 sounds a lot more reasonable. The upside to not driving the cars is that they are not obligated to stopping to help a fellow officer if they are in their own cars. There is certainly some give and take here. I think I'd pay the $50!
